This system is nicknamed "The Crab." The name for the system led us to thinking up crab names. Granchio is the Italian word for crab and since this is an international competition using foreign languages to name the star is an interesting naming system. Granchio is an interesting and playful word that we thought was a fun name for a star.

We submit the name “Christmas Island” for the planet system of 55 Cancri. We chose this name because 55 Cancri is located in the constellation Cancer, The Crab and as the star is a red dwarf we thought of the famous red crabs that are native to the island. Christmas Island is home to millions of red crabs that migrate during the wet season to release eggs into the ocean. This journey can take many days. The people of Christmas Island respect and protect these crabs as they take a trip across roads. 55 Cancri contains one planet in the habitable zone, planet F. Habitability may be as rare in this system as in our own solar system. The eccentricity of this planet is 0.3. If planet 55 Cancri F has an atmosphere this eccentricity will cause significant climate changes during an orbit. Island ecosystems on Earth will be very vulnerable to climate change. We hope that our name of Christmas Island with a single planet in the habitable zone and this planet having extreme climate variation will raise awareness of the risk of climate change to our own fragile home. We think that the care the inhabitants of Christmas Island extend towards the red crabs will inspire environmental awareness among Earth's citizens. Lastly, we note that the flag of Christmas Island contains 5 stars and this matches the number of known exoplanets in the system.

Sua is the Sun for muiscas. The proposal set forth below is based on the Muisca culture and different myths, in recognition of one of the many tribes that were submitted by European settlers, and also to show their beliefs to the public. The first part will contextualize some of these stories, then, based on the same, describe the chosen system and propose names for each body in it.

We suggest to name 55 Cancri A, the parent star of 55 Cancri planetary system Magayon. Based on our reseach, 55 Cancri A is a main sequence star so much alike of our own Sun. The difference is, it is on a binary star system and its core is said to be more ferric rather than carbonic unlike our sun. “Magayon” is a Bicolano word (A Filipino Dialect) which means “Beautiful”. And no doubt a star comparable to our wonderful life giving Sun deserves to be called as “Magayon” or beautiful as well.

The only star with 5 planets in the list is very suitable to name as our Sun and its 5 visible to naked eye planets, as they were named by ancient Armenians: Aregak (Sun), Paylatzu (Mercury), Arusyak (Venus), Hrat (Mars), Lusntag (Jupiter), Yerevak (Saturn). It is interesting, that ancient Greek names of this planets before the mythological ones had the same meanings as Armenian names: Stilbon, Phosphoros, Pirois, Phaethon and Phainon meaning Sparkling, Phosphorus, Fiery, Radiant and Apparent, respectively, exactly the same as in Armenian. Armenian names of the planets often are in use until now.
